Italo Svevo on itaalia romaanikirjanik ja novellist, psühhoanalüütilise romaani esindaja, kes juba möödunud sajandi lõpul oma esimeses romaanis «Üks elu» kasutas sisemonoloogi tehnikat. Sõbrustas 1904. aastast alates James Joyce´iga, kes ongi õieti tema avastaja.
Maailmakuulsuse tõi Svevole tema kolmas romaan, autobiograafiliste sugemetega «Zeno südametunnistus» (1923). See on läbilõikeinimese pihtimus oma argielust, tema psüühika täpne ja meisterlik kirjeldus, mida iseloomustab autori eneseirooniline lähenemine.
