About the artwork:
This Dali artwork illustrates the poems “Les Amours Jaunes” by Tristan Corbiere. Tristan Corbiere was a French poet who was a “cursed poet” figure and whose work was close to symbolism and a precursor to surrealism. Corbière's poetry adopted an incisive and cynical style, due above all to the experiences he had in his life. Since symbolism and surrealism are both about the fantastic and the irrational, it can be easy to imagine why Dali chose Corbiere's poems as a source of inspiration. Dali's work captures the essence of the poems: gold serves to glamorize voyeurism and emphasize the erotic components of the poems.
