9B klass on valitud selle aasta Battle Royale´i tõsielusarja, kus õpilased peavad võitlema üksteisega oma elu nimel. Kiriyama armastab tapmist ja temale on Battle Royale, kui mõni tore meelelahutus. Sarnaselt kasutab vahetusõpilane Kawada (Taro Yamamoto) ära võimalust, et oma tüdruksõbrale Keikole kätte maksta. Samas üritavad teised sõpradega liituda, et ellujäämist endale ja sõbrale kindlustada. Siin asetseb aga selle filmi dilemma: Kas ellujäämisinstinkt ületab lojaalsuse oma sõprade ees?
