Lord Grantham/Robert Crawley hindab üle kõige oma perekonna pärandit, eriti perekonna häärberit Downton Abbey't. Kui Lord Grantham'i pärija sureb Titanicul, lisandub Crawley'de ellu kauge sugulane Matthew Crawly, advokaat Manchesterist, kes peab kiirelt harjuma uue ja uhke eluga.
