Kuulsaima inglise nüüdisdramaturgi Peter Shafferi sulest on ilmunud hulk suure ülemaailmse publikumenuga näidendeid. Nende kõrge kirjanduslik tase teeb nad ka laiale lugejaskonnale huvipakkuvateks. „Musta komöödia“ (1965) tõi Tallinna Draamateatri peanäitejuhiks saamisel oma esiklavastusena välja Voldemar Panso. Sügavat psühholoogilist draamat „Amadeus“ (1979, esiettekanne Eestis 1989) võime Draamateatris Kalju Komissarovi haaravas, pingerohkes lavastuses nautida praegugi. Mõlemat näidendit seob veel seegi, et neil on sama tõlkija.
