Amélie Nothomb (s 1967) on üks tänapäeva loetumaid Belgia kirjanikke. Ta on pärit diplomaatide perest ja seetõttu juba varasest noorusest peale elanud väga erinevais maailma paigus: Jaapanis, Hiinas, Laoses, Bangladeis, Birmas ja Ameerika Ühendriikides. “Armastuse sõda”, mis ilmus 1993. aastal, jätkab tema autobiograafiliste romaanide sarja. Teose tegevus toimub Hiinas, diplomaatide geto müüride vahel. Seal peavad kõikvõimalike riikide diplomaatide lapsed omavahel halastamatut sõda, samal ajal kui nende vanemad saatkondades rahu nimel kurja vaeva näevad. Varem on Nothombilt eesti keeles ilmunud Jumala lapsepõlv (2004) ning Jahmatus ja värinad (2006).
