Antoine de Saint-Exupery (1900-1944) on üks kõigi aegade loetumaid prantsuse kirjanikke, kelle «Väike prints» on kujundanud lugematute lugejate maailmavaadet. Saint-Exupery teosed tuginevad peaaegu alati autori enda elukogemustele ja on lahutamatult seotud kirjaniku tõelise kire ja kutsumusega -- lendamisega. 1994. aastal ilmunud ja tänaseks paljudesse keeltesse tõlgitud Stacy Schiffi raamat Saint-Exupery elukäigust on esimene sedavõrd põhjalik käsitlus «Väikese printsi» autorist. 2000. aastal Pulitzeri biograafiaauhinna võitnud Stacy Schiff on välja uurinud kõik, mida Saint-Exupery elust ja selle traagilisest lõpust on tänapäeval teada ning vormistanud kogutud teabe haaravaks ja kütkestavaks raamatuks.
