Anu Uustalu õppis Pallases 1935-1939. Õppis Ado Vabbe käe all 1942-1944.
1944 lahkus koos õe Benitaga Saksamaale ja 1949 Ameerikasse.
Eestis valminud teoseid on teadaolevalt alles vaid kaks ja 1968 hävisid Chicago ateljees kõik Anu maalid. Tal on olnud näituseid USAs ja Kanadas.
2009 valiti Anu Uustalu Pallase auliikmeks
