Ajalooline romaan Ateena kauni hetääri Daphne seiklusrikkast elust.
Romaani tegevus toimub Kreeka-Pärsia sõdade ajal ja algab Ateenas, kus võluva Daphne armastust püüdlevad Kreeka rikkaimad ja mõjuvõimsaimad mehed. Ometi armub ta mehesse, kes on tema vastu ükskõikne – see mees on Themistokles.
Kuna romaani tegevus on põimunud sõjaga, siis on tegu rohkem põneviku kui traditsioonilise armastusromaaniga. Eriti nauditav on tolleaegse elu ja mõtteviisi tõetruu kujutamine – selles on tuntud ajalooraamatute autor Philipp Vandenberg kui tõeline meister.
