Asutatud 1884, natsi Saksamaa ajal aastadel 1933-1945 kandis nime DRV (Deutsche Radfahrer-Verband), taastati 1948. Muide aastatel 1938–1945 ühingut juhtis (Reichsradsportführer) SS-i Oberführer Viktor Brack. Natside eutanaasia ehk nn. Action T4 ja koonduslaagrites läbiviidavate meditsiiniliste eksperimentide ühe peamise organisaatorina mõisteti ta 1947. aastal Nürnbergi arstide protsessil surma ja 1948. aastal hukati.
