Nelakümne viieselt Forster sisuliselt lõpetas kirjutamise. Sõprade toel sai temast edukas BBC raaditöötaja. Edward Forster elas oma emaga kuni tolle elu lõpuni ning tal oli pikk ja õnnelik suhe Londoni politseikonstaabli Bob Buckinghamiga, kelle kodus ta 91-aastaselt ka eluga hüvasti jättis.
