Film räägib kirjanik Edgar Allan Poe viimastest päevadest enne tema kadumist. Poe (John Cusack) naaseb Baltimore'i, kus on aset leidnud mitu kohutavat mõrva, mis matkivad justkui meelega tema enda kirjutatud teoseid.
