Pärast 1992. aasta Eesti rahareformi võttis Eesti Vabariik valuutana uuesti kasutusele Eesti krooni. Varem kasutusel olnud rublad vahetati kolme päeva jooksul (20.-22. juuni) kroonideks, misjärel sai Eesti kroon ainsaks seaduslikuks maksevahendiks Eestis. 1992. aastal vahetati valuutat vahekorras 10 rubla = 1 kroon.
