Käesolev raamat on esimene katse üllitada Konstantin Pätsi ulatuslikku vaimset pärandit. See on valik tema kirjatöödest aastatel 1901-1916. Päts järgis ärkamisajast juurdunud traditsiooni, et ajalehetoimetaja on ühtlasi erakonna juht. Ajakirjanikutöö oli lahutamatu osa tema poliitilisest karjäärist. Aastail 1901-1916 avaldas ta enda toimetatud ajalehtedes "Teataja" ja "Tallinna Teataja" umbes 200 artiklit. Poliitilise põgenikuna Soomes viibides kirjutas ta 1908.-1916. aastal ligikaudu 30 artiklit "Peterburi Teatajale".
