TUTVUSTUS
ETBL on seni ilmunud Eesti biograafiliste leksikonide hulgas mahukaim, andmeid leiab rohkem kui 2600 teatritegelase kohta alates 19. sajandi lõpust kuni 1998. aastani. Teos on eelkõige Eesti kutselise teatri biograafiline leksikon. Sellesse on võetud vähemasti kolm hooaega kutselises teatris töötanud lavastajad, näitlejad, lauljad, koreograafid, balletitantsijad, dirigendid, koormeistrid, orkestrandid, kontsertmeistrid, kunstnikud ja dekoraatorid. Ka teatripedagoogide puhul on silmas peetud nende seotust kutselise teatriga või nende eriväljaõpet. Poolkutseliste teatrite näitlejatest ja lavastajatest on leksikonis ainult tuntuimad. Raamatus on ka teavet teatriteadlaste ja -kriitikute kohta. Iga artikkel annab ülevaate isiku elust ja tööst teatrist, lisatud on osade ja tööde loetelu ning bibliograafia. Illustreeritud rohkem kui 2000 mustvalge fotoportreega.
