"Geeniuse päeviku" kirjutas Dalí aastail 1952-1963. Seljataga oli meeletu noorus Federico García Lorca ja Luis Bunueli seltsis, tülliminek isaga, äge riid sürrealistidega ja kohtumine Paul Éluard'i naise Galaga. Päevik oma verbaalse akrobaatikaga pigem varjab kui selgitab. Ilmne on, et Dalí sihiks on lugejat šokeerida. Ise on ta kinnitanud, et vihkab lihtsust igasugusel kujul. Sageli paneb ta ühte patta naeruväärse ja üleva ning kui lugeja enam millestki aru ei saa, siis on Dalí oma eesmärgi saavutanud. Oma loomingumeetodit nimetas Dalí paranoia-kriitiliseks.
