Türgi sõdade ajal oli linn pidevalt rünnakute objektiks. Buda vallutanud Ottomani impeeriumi sõdalased piirasid 1522. a. Egeri linna ümber, kuid neil ei õnnestunud linna vallutada vaatamata sellele, et türklasi oli linnakaitsjatest pea 6 korda rohkem. 40-päevase piiramise ajal kaitsesid linna ka vaprad Egeri naised.

Seda Egeri kaitsmist peetakse Ungari ajaloos madjarite suurimaks võiduks. Egeri kaitsjad kirjutas surematuks Géza Gàrdonyi oma romaaniga "Egeri tähed".
