Rörstrand asutati 1726. aastal Rootsis Stockholmis Rörstrandi lossis Saksa portselanimeistri Johann Wolffi juhtimisel.
See teeb Rörstrandist Euroopas vanuselt teise keraamika kaubamärgi (pärast Meisseni, 1709).
Varajane toodang Rörstrandis valmistati fajansist, esimesed dekoorid olid Hiinast ja teistest välisriikidest pärit portselanist inspireeritud koobaltsinine.
