Selleks palkab ta appi eksistentsiaalsed detektiivid Bernard ja Vivian Jaffe (Dustin Hoffman ja Lily Tomlin). Nende abil hakkab Albert läbi vaatama oma elu, suhteid ja konflikti Brad Standiga, kes on kaubamajaketi "Huckabees" kiirelt kerkiv müügijuht. Sellest kuuldes palkab "Jaffe & Jaffe" endale appi ka Brad, kelle suhe modell Dawn Campbelliga (Naomi Watts) pole viimasel ajal just kõige sujuvam. Sellesse sasipuntrasse sekkuvad veel tuletõrjuja Tommy Corn (Mark Wahlberg) ning Jaffede põline vihavaenlane, radikaal Caterine Vauban (Isabelle Huppert).
