Klassikalise saksa idealismi esindaja Johann Gottlieb Fichte (1762-1814) filosoofilise idealismi manifest «Inimese määratlus» (ilm. 1800) tähistab mõtleja evolutsioonis esimese suure, nn. kantiaanlik-eetilise perioodi lõppu ja ühtlasi üleminekut järgmisele, nn. metafüüsilis-müstilisele.
Populaarses vormis resümeerib Fichte selles teoses oma algupärase, «teadusõpetuse» ideedele tugineva filosoofia, milles käesoleval juhul tõuseb kesksena esile absoluutse aktiivsuse ja inimese vabaduse probleem.
Filososfialooliselt tähistab Fichte üleminekut Kanti juurest Schellingi ja Hegeli juurde, olles oluline lüli klassikalise saksa idealismi arengus. Teosele, mida võib pidada sobivaks sissejuhatuseks Fichte mõttemaailma, on lisatud filosoofi 1974. aastal peetud kõne «Inimese väärikusest».
