Saaremaa oli soomlastele aastal 1989 muinasjutuhõnguline paik, Ultima Thule, tundmatu maa. „Kolmas lask Riia lahel“ räägib ühe loo sellest, kui kindlaks eesmärgiks Saaremaa võis saada. Siin kirjeldatud retk Saaremaale oli esimene, mis Nõukogude okupatsiooni ajal sellele suletud saarele Soomest mingisuguse loa varal tehti. Selleks õhutas meid Lennart Meri raamat „Hõbevalge“. Reis õnnestus tahte ja teadmatuse jõul.
