Märgis on pühendatud Maarjamäel asuvale Nõukogude memoriaalile, mis ühendab 1918. aasta Jäämarssi ja Teise maailmasõja sündmuste mälestust.
Kompleksit nimetati algselt "Memoriaalansambliks Nõukogude võimu eest võitlejate mälestuseks Eestis".
1918. aasta Jäämarss: Sellele on pühendatud kõrge 35-meetrine obelisk (monument Balti laevastiku meremeestele).
Teine maailmasõda: Kompleksis on tahvlid 1944. aastal Tallinna "vabastamises" osalenud sõjaväeosade nimedega ja (varem) põles Igavene Leeg.
Sümboolika: Skulptuur "Surevad kajakad" (kaks kätt, mis lasevad linde lahti, kelle tiivad moodustavad risti või okastraati meenutava kuju) sümboliseerib jagatud leina langenute pärast. Autor Matti Varik.

Значок посвящен советскому мемориалу в Маарьямяги, который объединяет память о Ледовом походе 1918 года и событиях Второй мировой войны.
Изначально комплекс назывался «Мемориальный ансамбль в память борцов за советскую власть в Эстонии»;
Ледовый поход 1918 года: Ему посвящен высокий 35-метровый обелиск (памятник морякам Балтийского флота).
Вторая мировая война: На территории комплекса расположены плиты с названиями воинских частей, участвовавших в «освобождении» Таллина в 1944 году, и горит (ранее горел) Вечный огонь.
Символика: Скульптура «Гибнущие чайки» (две ладони, выпускающие птиц, чьи крылья образуют форму, напоминающую крест или колючую проволоку), символизирует общую скорбь по погибшим. Автор Матти Варик.
