1921. aasta augusti lõpul pakuti Oskar Kallasele saadikukohta Londonis. Oskar Kallas kõhkles veel esialgu mõnevõrra, kuid Aino Kallas nägi kohe selle ettepaneku suuri võimalusi ja veenis abikaasat nõustuma: "Mis siis! – hüpakem siis ometi kord ookeani. Piisab tiikidest!"
Oskar Kallase kõrval sai Aino Kallasest tuntud isik nii Londonis resideerivate diplomaatide kui ka Londoni intellektuaalide hulgas. See oli Aino Kallase jaoks nii loominguline kui ka seltskondlik tippaeg. Käesoleva raamatu kaante vahele on kokku kogutud enam-vähem kõik, mida Aino Kallas on oma Inglismaa-aastate kohta mälestuskildude vormis avaldanud.
