Teadlane David Banner (Paul Kersey) uurib 50ndatel võimalust, suurendada inimese immuunsüsteemi vastupidavust. Kui sõjaväe esindaja Ross (Todd Tesen) projekti sulgeb, teeb David viimased katsed iseenda ja oma poja peal. Aastaid hiljem on ta poeg Bruce Banner (Eric Bana ja Edward Norton) täiskasvanud ja saab õnnetuse läbi suure koguse gammakiirgust. Ta jääb elama, kuid avastab peagi, et õnnetusel on suuremad tagajärjed, kui surmal oleks võinud olla - raevu sattudes muutub rohelise nahaga olendiks, kes juhindub instinktidest.
