Herman Sergo (1911-1989) sõitis koolivaheaegadel purjekal laevapoisina, lõplikult merele suundus ta 17-aastasena. Ta töötas üle viie aasta mitmesugustel välisriikide lippude all sõitvatel ookeanilaevadel madrusena, seejärel 1932.a. saabus ta tagasi kodumaale, kus teenis mereväes sundaega. Vabal ajal kuulas H. Sergo Tallinna merekoolis loenguid. Pärast sõjaväest vabanemist jätkas Sergo erialaseid õpinguid, töötades samal ajal tüürimehena. Kaugesõidukapteni kutse sai ta 1941.a. Suurest Isamaasõjast võttis H. Sergo osa Karjala rindel. Pärast sõda töötas ta kaubalaevastikus.
