Noor arstitudeng Ernesto Guevara alustas 1952. aasta jaanuaris koos sõbra Alberto Granadoga üheksa kuud kestnud mootorrattamatka läbi Lõuna-Ameerika. Reisi eesmärk oli näha põnevaid paiku, seigelda ja töötada vabatahtlikuna Peruus San Pedro leeprahaigete koloonias. Sellest matkast sai pöördeline sündmus Ernesto elus. Lõuna-Ameerikas sügavale juurdunud majanduslik ebavõrdsus viis Che järeldusele, et olukorda on võimalik muuta üksnes revolutsiooniga. Raamat viib lugeja matkale koos kahe tulise Argentina noormehega, kes vana ühesilindrilise Nortoni tsikliga võtsid ette midagi sellist, millest paljud unistavad, kuid mida ellu viivad vähesed.
