Herman Sergo kolmeosaline romaan «Näkimadalad» kajastab 18. sajandi sündmusi kirjaniku kodusaarel Hiiumaal.
Sündmustik algab Põhjasõja lõpuga 1710. aastal. Peamiseks tegevuspaigaks on rannaküla, mille elust saab lugeja hea pildi. Romaani teine osa keskendub aastatele 1725–1726, tegevustiku keskmeks on vastuolud rannarootslaste ja Kõrgessaare mõisniku vahel. Viimane osa, mis hõlmab aastaid 1779–1783, käsitleb hiiurootslaste kogukonna traagilist lõppu, kui nad küüditati 1781. aastal Katariina II ukaasi alusel Ukrainasse Dnepri äärde.
