Raamat on ülevenemaalisel tööteemalisel lastekirjanduse võistlusel autasustatud III preemiaga.
Autor oli Ukrainast pärit ajakirjanik, ajalehe «Pravda» kirjasaatja, kes seetõttu reisis läbi kogu Venemaa. Kuuldut-nähtut jagas ta alati ka lastega. Autori esimene lasteraamat «Minu kuldne vikerkaar» ilmus 1957. Siberist jutustavad ka «Valerka, sul on kõik veel ees», «Keša ja kaval jumal» ning «Punane vagun». Jakuudi laste elust räägitakse raamatus «Vahvad poisid», Dušanbe laste toredatest ettevõtmistest on lugu «Peaülesanne».
Käesolev raamat jäi autoril viimaseks ning preemia määrati postuumselt.
