Tegemist oli AIDSi-epideemia varajaste päevadega ning USA ametnikud polnud ühel meelel, kuidas viirusega võidelda. Ron nakatus 1986. aastal AIDSi ning veetis järgnevad kuus aastat USAsse ravimeid smugeldades, et endasuguseid aidata.
