Oma kolmandas romaanis «Piiri peal» (1993) jutustab autor 1970ndate Taani erakoolist ja selle kasvandikest.
Tasapisi avastavad lapsed kasvatajate-õpetajate läbiva korrataotluse tagant ühe õige kaheldava eesmärgiga meisterliku plaani. Et totaalse kontrolli tingimustes ellu jääda, otsustavad lapsed teha eksperimendi ja raputada end lahti kehtivast ajast, mida esindab kool. Väidetavalt on romaanil tugevad autobiograafilised sugemed.
