Autor on sündinud 28. detsembril 1926. a. Õppis Tallinna 13. Algkoolis ja 5. Keskkoolis. Astus 16-aastasena vabatahtlikult sõjaväkke, võttis osa lahingutest Krivasoos ja Narva rindel; osales lahingutes koduvärava ees Daugavpilsi lähistel II politseirügemendi koosseisus ja Emajõe ääres, Kärevere sillapea likvideerimisel.
Eestist taandumise järel võitles 20. diviisi ridades Sileesias, Oderi ääres. Sõja lõppedes sattus tšehhi põrgusse ja vene vangilaagrisse Vorkutas, kus hiljem suunati tööpataljoni Sillamäel. Vabanes 1951. aastal.
