See märulseiklus leiab aset ajastul, mil viikingid käisid vallutamas Põhja-Ameerikat. "Rajaleidja" on kangelaslik lugu noorest viikingi poisist, kes jääb peale oma klanni laeva karilesõitu võõrale mandrile maha. Poisi aga kasvatavad üles need samad indiaanlased, keda skandinaavia merelõvid sinna hävitama tulid. Järgmisel korral, kui viikingid uuele rüüsteretkele tulevad, on noorest poisist sirgunud juba 25-aastane sõdalane (Karl Urban), kellel tuleb nüüd oma rahva verd valada, et need jõhkrad röövretked lõppeksid.
