Rakvere linnus, pika ja värvika minevikuga vana kindlusehitis, on valvanud kohaliku linna ja ümbruskonna üle juba sajandeid. Rasked minevikusündmused on jätnud majesteetliku ehitise palgesse oma karmi jälje. Pärast suuri sõdu jäi linnus juba 17. sajandi alguses varemeisse. Tänaseks on linnuse müürid ja osa ruume renoveeritud ning külastajaile avatud.
