Oma jalgpallurikarjääri jooksul mängis Dalglish vaid kahes klubis – Liverpoolis ja Celticus.
Šotimaa klubiga tuli Dalglish neli korda riigi meistriks. 1977. aastal kolis Dalglish Liverpooli, kus tuli seitse korda Football league First Divisioni (praegu Premier League) meistriks ja võitis kolm Euroopa karikat.
Pärast jalgpallurikarjääri lõppu tegutses Dalglish treenrina. Ta oli aastatel 1985–1991 ja 2011–2012 Liverpooli, 1991–1995 Blackburn Roversi, 1997–1998 Newcastle Unitedi ja 2000. aastal Celticu peatreener.
