Sujata Bhatt on sündinud 1956. aastal Lääne-Indias, Gujarati osariigi pealinnas Ahmedabadis. Tema emakeel on gujarati keel, kuid luuletusi on ta kirjutanud ainult inglise keeles. Esmakordselt kolis perekond USAsse, kui tüdruk oli viieaastane. Hiljem õppis Sujata Bhatt Iowa ülikoolis kirjandust. Praegu elab ta Saksamaal.
