On aasta 2028 ja rahvusvaheline suurfirma OmniCorp on maailma robotitehnoloogia kaskmeks. Nende droonid on aastaid osalenud sõjaväelistes missioonides välismaal ning see on OmniCorpile sisse toonud miljardeid dollareid. Nüüd tahab OmniCorp hakata oma vastuolulist tehnoloogiat ka kodumaa pinnal kasutama ja neil tekib selleks kuldne võimalus.
Kui Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) saab tööülesandeid täites kriitiliselt vigastada, näeb OmniCorp selles võimalust viia ellu nende visioon pool inimesest ja pool robotist koosnevast politsei ohvitserist.
