Manufactured by Carl Friedrich Ern in Solingen, Germany. Solingen is known as the "City of Blades," and ERN was one of its premier producers during the golden age of straight razors (late 19th to mid-20th century). ERN was an award-winning manufacturer. Their razors are famous for using high-quality steel that holds a very sharp edge. "Aço Sueco" (Swedish Steel): The engraving on indicates it was made with Swedish steel, which was historically considered the finest steel for razor blades because of its purity and fine grain structure. This marking is in Portuguese. ERN had a massive export market to South America (particularly Brazil) and Portugal during the 1920s and 30s. Seeing "Aço Sueco" instead of "Schwedischer Stahl" confirms it was part of an export batch from this peak production era. In the 1920s or 30s, the company ERN was at its absolute zenith, employing over 600 people and producing some of the most consistent, high-performance steel in the world. specific "Aço Sueco" 700-series model is a classic pre-WWII vintage piece. It represents the era when Solingen steel was undisputed as the best in the world.
