Aleksandr Solženitsõn (1918–2008) on oma teostes kirjeldanud GULAG-i vangilaagrite koledusi võib-olla jõulisemalt kui keegi teine. Noores eas nõukogude võimu toetanud kirjanikust sai dramaatiliste pöörete kaudu teisitimõtleja, propaganda ja tsensuuri ohver ning sundemigrant. 1994. aastal kodumaale naastes leidis ta eest uutmoodi segaduse, mida kritiseeris elu lõpuni.

Erkki Vettenniemi 2015. aastal ilmunud raamatus on lisaks Solženitsõni eluloole ka äsja avanenud arhiividest leitud varem avaldamata materjale KGB, poliitbüroo ja muude ametkondade intriigidest kuulsa kirjaniku ümber. Käesolevas väljaandes on ka põhjalikumalt juttu Solženitsõni seostest Eesti ja eestlastega.
