This book contains papers in memory of the Swedish art historian Sten Karling presented at a conference at the Estonian Academy of Art in May 1996. The authors of the papers are students of Sten Karling's, students of his students, as well as art historians for whom, one way or another, the professor of both Tartu and Stockholm Universities has been a guide, or has provided inspiration or knowledge in treatments of the history of art of the Baltic Sea countries.
