SUPER RARE! A K HAPPY (The Arkubs) - NEWS CHRONICLE CLUB - Briti lasteklubi liikmemärk!

Enne 1930!

A K Happy the bear was one of the main characters from the Arkubs, a comic strip created and drawn by the illustrator, James Francis Horrabin (1884-1962). A K Happy was the pet bear and good friend of Japhet, a son of the Noah Family whose members and friends were wooden puppet characters whose adventures were serialised in comic strip form from 1919 until the 1950’s.                                          The New Chronicle as with many other newspapers of the time, ran their own Children’s Corner that included a club section. Children up to the age of 15 would join the club by sending off 12 ‘Happy’ cut-out tokens from the Children’s Corner section together with 3d (3 pence) in postage stamps. In return, they received a club membership book complete with secret code (these clubs always had their ‘secret codes’), a membership badge as pictured above and certificate. Members were also enrolled into a birthday-club where their names and birthdates would be published and receive a specially printed Arkubs birthday card. The Arkubs club survived the war and into the 1950’s.                                                                                                                                                                                        The badge features A K Happy bear who first appeared with the Arkubs in 1926/1927 and became the club mascot.
