See raamat on kirjutatud nende võrulaste meenutamiseks ja mälestuste jäädvustamiseks, kes olid nõukogude esimese okupatsiooni ohvrid, talletamaks võrulaste kannatusi, leina ja valu. Samuti on püütud raamatus tulevaste põlvede jaoks kirja panna 1941. aastal okupantide ja nende käsilaste vastu Võrumaal peetud Suvesõja sündmustik ning meenutada Eesti vabastamislahingutes, Venemaal partisanisõjas, Idarindel ning mujal võidelnud ja langenud Võrumaa mehi.
