13. jaanuaril 1999 möödus sada aastat omaaegse tuntud kirjamehe Juhan Jaigi sünnist. Tänases Eestis on tema nimi paraku unustusse vajunud. Kirjanik lahkus koos perega sünnimaalt 1944 sügisel ja suri 1948 Rootsis. Eestlaste vanemale põlvkonnale ei ole Juhan Jaigi nimi aga võõras. Oli tema ju üks neist, kes sirguva noorsoo maailmanägemist oma kodupaiga ainestikul põhineva ja rahvalikus keeles kirjutatud loominguga 1920.-1930. aastatel oluliselt kujundas. Selles on tema tähendus mõõdetamatu. Kirjaniku sünnijuubeli eel avastas tema Prantsusmaal elav tütar Ilo Jaik Riedberg perekonna arhiivi korrastades isa seniavaldamata käsikirja. See on mälestusraamat eestlaste sunnitud pagemist kodumaalt, elust pagulaslaagrites Saksamaal ja Austrias.
