TUTVUSTUS
Eesti Vabariigi presidendi kantselei ülema Elmar Tambeki (1897-1991) mälestuste «Tõus ja mõõn» (Toronto, 1964) esimene raamat annab pildi iseseisvusaegse Eesti sotsiaal-poliitilistest sündmustest ja suundumustest koos isikupäraste tähelepanekutega tolleaegsest miljööst ja elulaadist. See tükike kaasaelatud ajalugu jaguneb raamatus kahte ossa: esimeses osas («Prokuratuur») kirjeldab autor peamiselt oma kujunemisteed ja tööelu juristina, teises osas («Kadriorg») aga oma tegevust Eesti Vabariigi ja tema presidendi teenistuses kuni nende mõlema likvideerimiseni võõrvõimu poolt. Käesolevas teoses, mida iseloomustab kõrge jutustamiskultuur ja kindel autorihoiak, tõuseb kesksena esile president Konstantin Päts nii inimesena kui riigimehena. Raamatu uustrükile on lisatud ajaloolase järelsõna.
