20. juulil 1944. aastal plahvatas Adolf Hitleri Ida-Preisimaa peakorteris pomm. Atentaadi korraldasid Saksamaa antinatsistid, kes nimetasid oma vandenõu "Valküürid". Juhuse tõttu atentaat ebaõnnestus, kuid katse suutis maailmale näidata, et mitte kõik sakslased ei poolda natse.
