Viljandi muuseumi fotokogust käesoleva albumi kaudu lugeja ette toodud pildivalik kajastab linna ja ka selle tolleaegse lähiümbruse väljanägemist XIX sajandi lõpukümnenditest kuni XX sajandi 30. aastateni. Sadade vaadete hulgast on raamatusse jõudnud esmajärjekorras niisugused, mis omavad linna lähiajaloo seisukohalt mingit märgilist tähendust või mis annavad edasi XX sajandi I poolel toimunud suuremaid muudatusi linnaruumis.
