Autoriga käivad seda vaevateed ka Eesti Vabariigi peaministri asetäitja Otto Tief ning tema valitsuse ministrid Johannes Pikkov ja Hugo Pärtelpoeg. Arnold Susi oli Otto Tiefi viiepäevase (18.–22. september 1944) valitsuse haridusminister. Ta pidi teadma, millega riskib. Sakslased põgenesid, kuid ei olnud jõudu, kes oleks peatanud Nõukogude väed.
